So, having just finished a multi-year project rebuilding my 1971 Triumph Daytona motorcycle, I was looking around for another challenge. I wandered out to the garage and saw this:
It's
a 1974 Triumph TR6 that I bought around 1976. I drove it for five
years or so until it developed clutch problems. I was just
starting to build a house at that time, and bought a pickup truck, but
I really liked the TR, so in the garage it went. It's been there
ever since--close to 32 years.
The
car had a broken third gear synchronizer when I bought it, and after
putting up with that for a few of years, I finally pulled the
transmission and fixed it, replacing all the bearings and seals while I
was at it. Other than that, I believe the car has never been
apart. There is significant rust in the typical places, and the
interior is a mess, but overall, I think the car is worth putting some
work into.
It's
got 65,000 miles on the odometer, but there's also the toll of
time to deal with. My plan is to pull the engine and bring it to
my shop to rebuild this winter, and start on the rest next Spring.
