Clearing Debris

Well, it's been mostly pretty cold recently here on the prairie, and with the TR6 essentially finished, I've been doing indoor ancillary stuff on the project. Today was debris cleanup.

It's my habit when doing a project like the TR6 to not throw anything away until a section of the car is completely finished. So old rusted parts and hardware get thrown into one of a couple of boxes in case I need to retrieve them for reference. I've finally deemed these boxes of debris as no longer needed. Before I throw everything out wholesale though, I went through them to see if there were things I needed to keep. Here is most of it spread out on the bench.

It doesn't include larger stuff like all of the carpets and padding, all the vinyl trim and panels, the boot trim, and the tunnel. It doesn't include the old convertible top, the side glass nor the windshield. It doesn't include any of the emissions stuff or the wiring harness.  All that stuff would fill the table at least twice more.

I'll obviously keep the old dash support, the air box, and the master cylinders, and a few other odds and ends.  I'll pack a box with all the usable or restorable parts for some future owner.  The rest gets recycled or trashed, the same fate as previous parts debris purges for this project.

From a few years ago, this is all the metal removed from the frame.  Most of it is the trailing arm mount members and the cruciate plates.

The left picture is all of the rusty metal removed from the tub.  The right picture is from the four wings.

This is most of the hard parts from the drive train and suspension rebuilds, then the "soft"--mostly rubber--parts.

I had figured earlier that the scrap from the frame, tub, and wings added up to about 120 pounds of original metal.  The drive train and suspension parts was another 100, approximately.  The last assorted stuff from today, plus the carpets and other interior, the glass and the tires is probably close to 200.  So I figure that around 400 pounds worth of this car is new.  Based on this, I declare this car to be 83.1% original.
