Windscreen glass

I saved the windscreen glass until relatively late in the project because having it absent was a real help when working around the dash, and even moving the car around the garage, since I could steer it through
the opening.  When the time came, I dug out the stored original glass.  It had 5 years of garage dust on it.

I cleaned it off and noticed the parking sticker.  The last time this car was registered and driven was 1983.

I was sort of on the fence as to whether to replace this glass or not.  It actually cleaned up fairly well.  Close inspection in the right light revealed tiny scratches and pits, and there is a scuff mark where the driver's side wiper rubbed, but over all, I couldn't really justify replacing it.

I applied the seal.  It didn't really want to stay on the glass, so I had to coerce it with tape in places.

Then applied the glass to the windscreen frame, where it was clearly apparent that there was no way it was going to fit.

But fit it finally did.  I used the ubiquitous "cord" method, where a small (3/16", maybe) cord is placed in the slot to help pull the seal flap over the frame flange on the inside.  Some soapy water and the little blunt tool helped a lot, too, especially in the corners.

Finally, the chrome plastic trim, which actually acts as a "key" to lock the seal in place.

As a solo job, I liken the entire process to a cross between a Sumo match and a game of Whac-A-Mole.
